The Keep! It's an awesome movie that I've always wanted on DVD. Well, maybe awesome is too strong a word, but it has a great cast with Ian McKellen and Gabriel Byrne, Tangerine Dream soundtrack and just general awesomeness. Including a battle over what kind of looks like a Holy Flashlight or something. I have the VHS and you can track down pirate DVD copies, but Mann is pretty embarrassed of it.I dug the F. Paul Wilson book as a teenager too, and recently found it again. It is worth a read.
I'm with you kafkaeque, an underated flick that sadly more style than substance at least by todays standards but it's still a fun nazi vs monster flick. I wasn't aware that Mann was embarrassed by it. I certainly didn't want a refund of my time after watching it :)
I'll have to keep my eyes out for it.
The movie was okay, but I made the mistake of reading the entire Adversary Cycle (arguable the centerpiece story to Wilsons "Grand Unification;" though it looks like the Repairman Jack books have gained way more prominence), so the short-comings of the film were kind of glaring. The flick is fun, but shallow; kind of a bizarro,non-sensical "Highlander" at the end of the day (whereas the books are a patchwork Lord of the Rings meets Cthulhu Mythos, which are almost ridiculous in how they end-up referencing just about every story written by F. Paul Wilson).
