The Slow Loris facing extinction due to demand in the pet trade, and has become one of the most popular primate species on sale in Indonesian, and inother less regulated, pet markets.
ReplyDeleteTeeth are ripped out by untrained vendors and hunters, and because the loris is so fragile - the jaw bones are often broken in the process, and/or they get horribly painful infections in the gums and jaw . And then they are either sold on to the unsuspecting, where the loris dies in their new owners possession, unable to eat (but the vendor and hunter have already made their money so they don't give a damn), or killed as unsellable.
