In light of the now expired cheap download price for American Gods, I decided to see if any of the books on my wishlist were also available cheap. Here's what I just downloaded:
Sandman Slim: A Novel is 99 cents.
Leviathan Wakes (The Expanse) is $2.99.
Debris (Veiled Worlds Trilogy) is $2.99.
(I have no recollection of specifics, but I must have seen these recommended somewhere.)
Also, Susanna Clarke's outstanding, tremendous, and wonderful Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell is a $2.99 download.

I'll second Susanna Clarke's work—it slows a bit roughly halfway through (from what I remember)—but it's still bloody amazing. That said, one of the greatest things about it is her use of footnotes to expound on certain details or explore a tangent (there were several instances where a footnote covered two hardcover pages), and reading footnotes on the Kindle is, IMHO, a total pain. Spring for a used physical copy, if you can.
ReplyDeleteSlow is right, but the good kind of slow. I wanted to savor each sentence.
ReplyDeletei highly recommend ereaderiq.com for tracking your Kindle wish list. After you load your Amazon wish list, if one of your picks drops in price, you receive an email notifying of the drop. It's been great. Especially with many authors setting books for free temporarily.
