    Not really... well, sorta'...

  2. Seems like the author of Darth Plagueis, James Luceno, has a knack for screwing up what should be awesome Star Wars books. I was really looking forward to Millennium Falcon, until I found out he wrote it. He totally botched that one too.

His writing style is really, really difficult to get into. Take a look at the opening chapter of Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader (link below). The second paragraph of the book is: “Frequently but not always.” Seriously, that fragment is a complete paragraph. He writes like this throughout his books, bouncing around different verb tenses within paragraphs and most of his sentences rely on helping/passive verbs. I don’t know if it’s his fault or his editor’s, but his writing just takes all the fun out of reading what should be a great story.

On the bright side, I guess it helps fans appreciate Timothy Zahn, Drew Karpyshyn, Greg Bear, and all the other decent Star Wars writers even more.
