I'd heard The Secret World of Arrietty was good, but I hadn't expected to enjoy it so much. As good as any other Studio Ghibli movie I've seen. My 5 and 7 year old boys liked it too.

I would stop short of as good as any other Studio Ghibli film, but I and my 11 year old excuse to see it were both impressed by it!

ReplyDeleteIt was really beautiful - and so nice to see that storytelling and craft is so important to Studio Ghibli. It's actual art instead of simply a way to create endless product tie-ins, etc.
ReplyDeleteWhy is Arrietty premiering in the US so late? I bought this movie on DVD (in Germany) last year.
ReplyDeleteIn the UK there's a Borrower adaption about every 2-5 years so I had reservations - but I thought Ghibli pulled it off, bringing an impressive sense of scale and highlighting the loneliness of the main characters.
