Link roundup

1. Since today's Penny Arcade is dedicated to insulting China Mieville, let me say that The Scar, Perdido Street Station (like the best Dungeons and Dragons adventure ever), Un Lun Dun (all-ages with a very clever spin on fairy tale heroines), and The City & The City are all outstanding. (Wasn't crazy about his comic Dial H, though.)

2. Twenty-five minutes of JK Simmons/Cave Johnson's lines from the new Portal downloadable content. (Occasionally funny.)

3. Listen to Sacha Baron Cohen's hour-long interview with Howard Stern. (Fascinating throughout.)

4. Vladimir Putin, hockey star.

  1. I love Mieville too!

I'm reading Perdido for the second time right now. (It's so dense in imagery it's difficult to take it all in the first time.)

Un Lun Dun was really great too. I've not yet read the Scar or The City.

  2. The Scar is terrific. Iron Council is good, but a little too heavy on the pro-communism stuff for my taste.

The City in the City is a really clever mystery novel with a very satisfying payoff.
