UPDATE: Lawrence won and has been contacted.

Flash Gordon: The Tyrant of Mongo is a brand new 176-page, three-pound book, collecting the Flash Gordon stories appearing between 1937 and 1941. Alex Raymond's art is gorgeous, and the pulpy proto-Star Wars stories are good fun. There's plenty of rocket ships, and space monsters, and gleaming futuristic cities. But the most fun is space mimbo Flash Gordon finding one flimsy excuse after another to take off his clothing:
and endlessly expressing befuddlement at the gorgeous space princesses competing for his body:
The book's 43% off at Amazon.
I also have one copy to give away. For a chance to win, simply comment on this post and include your email so I can contact you if you win. One comment per person, and USA residents only, please. I'll pick a winner on Friday.

When i was a kid in the 60s, the Flash Gordon serial with Buster Crabbe would run on TV only on Saturday mornings at 6 AM. I'd get up early to watch it. I'd be the only person in the house awake. Whenever I see Flash Gordon now, I get sleepy.
ReplyDeleteBilly@oneswellillustrator.com
woa, I never imagined to watch this online...
ReplyDeleteAlexRaymond's art was one of my favourite childhood readings;
I had one big book in b&w that my uncle coloured with pencils for me...
awesome!
:-)
Wow. This is right up my alley! I hope I win! :)

My first brush with anything Flash Gordon was seeing Ming the Merciless being pierced with the ship's needle/antenna at the end of the 1980 movie. That and watching Defenders of the Earth when I got home from school as a kid. Very curious about those old strips.

This would be just amazing. I would pour over this for hours.
ReplyDeleteThis would be awesome to have. My dad was nicknamed Flash after Flash Gordan due to some red outfit he frequently wore around the time the 80's movie came out.
