Today's news and jokes

I still believe in the American Dream, because I've lived it. It's worth fighting for. Rep. Nixon ran a strong campaign. I will be standing by her side in the fight against Ashley Moody. I hope you'll join me.

(Article can only say it happened "recently" so the timing of the report...)

I think Abundance tripped over the exact same problem Effective Altruism did: many of the people pushing it got immediately bored with what it actually entails and started talking up whatever gets them invited into Silicon Valley WhatsApp groups.

(The "original article, published in 2024 in Macromolecular Materials and Engineering based on work she did while in high school...While the original decision to retract the paper brought praise from one of her professors and the journal’s editor-in-chief, it also led to deeper scrutiny of the high-achieving student’s publishing record and a “research-driven college counseling” business she runs to help students gain admission to Ivy League colleges")

(This couldn't be better timed for the MLB players union)

You should be able to order a firefly to your home. The delivery guy should arrive at your door with cupped hands and gently release it into your living room. And the two of you should stand there and watch it together with silent reverence

@hugoandursula

Everyone makes paddle boarding with their dogs look so peaceful. Glassy water. Golden sunset. Perfect balance. Meanwhile, ours looked like a live reenactment of a maritime disaster. Footage not included: Henry and Huxley capsizing the paddle board and me genuinely thinking I was going to be trapped underneath it forever while they enthusiastically clawed their way back on top. When I finally managed to flip it back over, they immediately used me as their personal buoyancy aid, climbing all over me to get themselves safely aboard. So much for doggy paddle. Apparently that job was mine. It’s nice to know that if we’re ever stranded at sea, my boys will always have my back… mainly because they’ll be standing on it while climbing to safety.
