Today's news and jokes

Honestly, some of my favorite TV moments are when live-to-tape TV shows have to meet the constraints of the format During the 2007-08 writer's strike, Conan O'Brien forced his guests to navigate a maze before their interview, because they couldn't write jokes and they needed something else to do

SCOOP: Less than 3 weeks before Trump pardoned Paul Walczak, his mother, Elizabeth Fago, attended a $1M/head fundraiser with Trump at Mar-a-Lago for MAGA Inc. Walczak's pardon application emphasized Fago's financial support for Trump, & her connection to a plot to publicize Ashley Biden's diary.

("It came just in the nick of time for [him], sparing him from having to pay nearly $4.4 million in restitution")

The crazy thing about Trump randomly pardoning relatively small-time, unrelated criminals is it adds just another level of gambling to making decisions in one's day-to-day life

Wild story. If I read it right, it alleges: Hegseth’s personal lawyer, overseeing DoD leak investigation (!), told WH an illegal NSA wiretap on Dan Caldwell phone (!!) was used, but that this wasn’t in fact true (!!!). The lawyer then denied he’d said this. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

("the illegal wiretap claim and [senior adviser]’s denials fueled a breakdown in trust between the Pentagon and the White House, where the Trump advisers tracking the investigation have privately suggested they no longer have any idea about who or what to believe")

"You need to have constant bodyguard physical security at all times or else organized crime syndicates will kidnap you to steal your money in untraceable ways" is the world that the crypto evangelists dream of creating.

If you've thought honeycrisp apples have gotten worse recently, you're not wrong! Here's a good look at why.

("'Really a variety cannot be successful unless it’s grown commercially in Washington,' [he] says. 'We sent trees out, they tested it, and I had more than one grower call me and say, "'That’s the worst tree I’ve ever tried to grow here. I’m pulling all the trees out.'" Not only is the fruit a poor fit for the state’s climate, which is much warmer than Minnesota, but it’s also prone to several physiological and storage disorders")

There are whole movies that don’t have the twists and turns of this paragraph.

There's a terrific Most Dangerous Game episode where a hunter traps David Banner on an island and David tries not to Hulk out because the hunter wants to hunt the Hulk, not David.

(My favorite Hulk issues were the "Stay Angry" storyline drawn by Steve Dillon where the Hulk keeps waking up to realize Banner has intentionally gotten him into a comically dangerous situation)
