(Was pretty amused when I read about the armored super commandos in Dan Simmons's Hyperion series and then looked up the actual Swiss Guard.) (And the frustration that swordsmen dressed even sillier than this could be truly deadly was a big part of Neal Stephenson's Quicksilver series, as I recall.)
