Today's news and jokes

If you want to do something like this, why not buy a $150k home in a small town in Italy, France, Spain, or Mexico, instead of having nine people share one bathroom after they eat at a restaurant called "Stinky's?"

I was curious why it was so cheap. The walls and ceiling appear to be yellow from what I assume to be decades of smoking, in addition to needing a shit ton of other work. But hey, a wife and seven kids could handle that.

The article

I'm searching Getty Images and found some photos credited to the Boston Herald that redact the faces of ICE/federal agents. They don't redact the face of the guy they're arresting. I'm curious about the ethics of doing this. I don't think I've ever seen this on Getty before.

A quick sidenote about this; one reason I stay on X is specifically because of exchanges like this, where @davidjbier.bsky.social and I got a prominent government official to make a claim so outrageous that it’s now ricocheting around the internet and actively undermining official PR campaigns.

This story, too

The reason folks are focusing on DHS's refusal to honor Real IDs is that it means that the Trump regime is asserting the right to detain anyone in America, resident or visitor, without probable cause. It's an erasure of habeas corpus for all Americans. bsky.app/profile/jare...

Things we learn: 1. Bovino's existence is the result of chain migration, which MAGA wants to ban 2. His family arrived legally under an immigration law MAGA wants to repeal 3. His father killed a woman while driving drunk, a crime for which MAGA aims to deport immigrants And much more. Read it.

I think the Google "Spruce Goose" office in LA is maybe the coolest office I've ever been to. I had a couple meetings there back in my cool guy freelancer days and was just wowed every time. la.curbed.com/2018/11/8/18...
