A cautionary tale, from the world of hotel-booking. For about a decade now I've used Hotels dot com and generally I've had no complaints. But I have run into trouble in the past when booking rooms for the Toronto film festival. 1/

I *immediately* tried to reach someone at Hotels dot com. I opted for a text chat and had to navigate through the AI telling me to contact the property. I'm not sure I ever did interact with a real person, because the person I texted with at Hotels dot com just kept asking if I wanted to cancel. 10/

In 2020 I wrote about wildfires and the desperation and anxiety a lot of people feel out west feel when the smoke settles in and smothers. Anyhow it led to me going on MSNBC to (animatedly, i guess) talk about it and my friend ended up taking what is the single funniest screen grab of me of all time
