The Hot Streak board game looks irresistible

Amazon listing. Look at how great the mascot figures look:

Here's one review calling it the "purset distillation of fun" the reviewer had expertienced with a board game in a long while. And here's another reviewer picking it as board game of the year. Runner up has a terrific name:

Fun review of a two-day international larp festival in London called "The Smoke"

He reviews several events, including something called 12-Handed Monopoly designed by Leo Doulton:

Essentially "normal" Monopoly but almost every player had special abilities, like putting policemen on the board, stealing cash, giving loans, being a revolutionary and tearing down houses, etc. The intro workshop took almost 90 minutes due to all the rules.

...

I laughed the hardest during this larp than in any other during the weekend. A player next to me played as a nail technician with precisely zero (0) special abilities and spent the entire time complaining about the corruption and unfairness of the system without breaking character once. As for myself, I led the military industrial complex and, after a hint from the larp runner, borrowed £2000 from the banker at 10% to bribe the State in order to declare war, thereby increasing all taxes and the defence budget. No sooner had I done this, I'd landed in jail due to a Chance card and survived an assassination.

Neil Patrick Harris's "Box Two" is awfully disappointing

Box One is great, and great to regift. I liked it so much, I bought Box Two without even considering waiting for a review.

The engineering in Box Two's game items commonly failed, the puzzles were mostly either extremely difficult or barely worthy of being called puzzles, and the narrative was essentially nonexistent and unpleasant to sit through. I can regift the package, but only to someone I want to disappoint and/or first warn to lower their expectations.

The publisher of the successfully funded Rainbow Six: Siege board game has demanded substantially more money from kickstarter backers

From the update (the project funded at $1,541,463 with an original $100,000 goal):

the combined crises of COVID and the war in Ukraine, which we had not anticipated, have changed the international situation

...

We already faced this problem with another big project, Darkest Dungeon, and we had to ask backers for an additional contribution to cover these extra costs. More than 80% of the backers paid it

...

Depending on your pledge, here is the amount that will be asked, to which you will have to add the shipping costs:

Fresh Recruit (Core Pledge): $39 (original pledge $69)

Trooper (Gameplay All-in): $99 (original pledge $199)

Smooth Operator (Premium all-in): $129 (original pledge $269)

...

If you are unwilling or unable to pay, you will not receive your game in October.

...

We continue to make refunds for all our projects as we are able. These refunds are made in chronological order of the requests received by email to our customer service support@mythicgames.net and according to a capped amount revised each month. These refunds will continue as long as they do not jeopardize the delivery of the projects.

Via.

"BUYER BEWARE: So this book is so big it pushes the limits of what the printing company can handle"

Apollo 47 Technical Handbook:
In a somewhat alternate Earth in a rather different 1987 you will explore the Moon on the 47th Apollo Mission!  The Moon!  Where forty-six other moon missions have gone before.  Forty-six.  That's an awful lot of successful Moon missions.

And that's the point:  Apollo 47 imagines a future where walking the surface of the Moon is a little bit boring.  You engage in workaday astronaut activities using a simple improvisatory rules set to play in a quiet world of technobabble and the slow progression of science.  If something exciting happens please stop play immediately and go do something else–you are in the wrong game.

This zero-prep game of improvisatory radio chatter can be played through just about any communications medium for any length of time.  Five minutes to spare?  Spend it recalibrating a JLDO unit that's gone out of alignment.  Tighten the tamping line using the three baseline screws.  The blue screen torques the focus to the left, the green screw adjusts the dust pan height.  You should have a yellow-handled size 20 tamping gun and a slot puller in your work bag.  Got them?  Okay, so next...

One astronaut is supported by a team of voices on the radio.  Work, banter, and cause gentle problems for each other.

I... I just can't explain this game any better than that.

What you get:

You are buying a twelve-hundred page book.  It's 8.5x11 and over seven pounds.  It's just stupid big.  The books pages are distributed roughly this way:

1 page contains the game

9 pages contain advice on how to play the game

13 pages contain useful prompts for operating the game

1177 pages are reproductions of NASA manuals and papers related to the Apollo missions which can, if you need it, provide prompts to spur you on.  Spoiler:  I never use the prompt pages and don't really expect you to do so.  They just aren't necessary for play.

This book is a tremendous folly.  It's ludicrous and bloated and couldn't make me happier.  If you aren't joining me in hearty guffaws at something this THIS then stick with the PDF.  You'll be fine.

The "Box One" puzzle game featuring Neil Patrick Harris is very fun

You're absolutely better off going in knowing as little as possible (although I'd caution that the first few cards are annoyingly stupid and misrepresent what the experience will be). You can play by yourself or with as many people as you'd like, and as long as you treat all the items very gently, you can "reset" the game when you're done.* Currently $34 at Amazon.

(I almost ruined the very last step, but figured it out.)

A card game called "The Estate of Baron Archambaud, an Ingrate"

Good title for a game available at Itch:

Baron Archambaud's palatial estate is as opulent, confounding, and eccentric as the man himself. He took something you desperately need and locked it away in his vault, and you are determined to retrieve it. You are not the first to attempt this thievery. A dangerous path lays before you.

The Estate of Baron Archambaud, an Ingrate is a self-contained, single-player card adventure in which players use a deck of standard playing cards to explore the Baron's estate and retrieve an heirloom from his vault.

Players build the estate by dividing the deck by color. The black cards represent rooms with encounters, puzzles, or random effects. The red cards represent items and treasures that you receive for successfully resolving encounters.

Many encounters can be resolved in three ways: FIGHT, ESCAPE, and CHARM. Players roll 2d6, add any bonuses or boons, and attempt to beat the number indicated. Items you pick up can help you, and you can choose a character at the beginning with bonuses in these stats to suit your play style.

Advice to win in Monopoly is appropriately grim

From a longer post:
The most valuable properties are the oranges and reds because that's where most people land after getting out of jail - the most common spot to be on in the game. Do pretty much anything you can to get a full set of orange or red.

Pay what you can for board game Fireball Island

Restoration Games:
We know a lot of folks have been hit hard by the virus in a lot of different ways — whether you’ve lost a job or are just feeling the strain of of this situation we find ourselves in — and we’d like to do what we can to help out during these trying times. We have a limited supply of the first printing of Fireball Island: The Curse of Vul-Kar that recently made it back into the warehouse. Other than the retro box style and a card with a typo, it’s the same amazing game of flicking fireballs as the newest printing.

The game regularly sells for $75, but we’re offering it here as a Pay-What-You-Can option. Once we’ve sold through these remaining copies, we’ll donate all the profits from these sales to a charity benefiting folks who’ve been hit the hardest. You all get a fun game to play, and some less fortunate folks get some much needed assistance. (And if you combine this purchase with other items from our store, you’ll still only pay our $5 flat shipping rate.)

If you have financial trouble but still want to pick up a game for your friends and family, pay what you can.

If you’re doing pretty well and want to give back to folks who aren’t faring so well, pay a little more.

Original Product Description: Vul-Kar is back, and he’s meaner than ever. This fully restored version of the 1986 classic offers an amazing new island, a charming new narrative, stunning new components, and engaging new gameplay. Play cards to race across the island. Gather treasures and take snapshots. And, of course, blast your friends with fireballs! The new version offers more marble mayhem with a dynamic Vul-Kar figure that keeps you guessing where they’ll come out. But make sure you get back to the Hello-copter to really max out your score. (More info on our game page.)
