Photoluminesent "trap lights"

Photoluminesent "trap lights" by Gionata Gatto and Mike Thompson:
The project proposes a radical new approach to lighting design through the use of photoluminescent pigments to capture escaping light; and converting waste energy back into visible light.

Photoluminesence is a process in which energy absorbed by a substance is gradually released as light, and using the Murano glass blowing technique, the designers were able to embed photoluminescent pigments into the glass body of the lamp.

Through this process, Trap Light becomes both shade and light source, emitting, absorbing, and re-emitting light.

Thirty minutes ‘charge’ of recycled light from a traditional incandescent or LED light bulb provides up to eight hours of ambient lighting.

Tron light cycle board game

Homemade Tron light cycle board game:
- The board is made from two pieces of smoked acrylic, which I etched on an Epilog laser cutter at my local Tech Shop. The grid was originally supposed to be edge-lit by LEDs, but the tint in the acrylic kept the light from penetrating. So, I taped off and painted the grid with blacklight-reactive paint.
- I cut the light trails out of fluorescent orange and blue acrylic, also on the laser cutter.
- I bought the TRON vehicles and Recognizer carrying case. I modded the carrying case a bit to include rows of blue and blacklight LEDs. I am in the process of repainting the vehicles with blacklight-reactive paint.
- I'm still finishing the carrying cases for the light trails, one of which is in the video. These were made of wood, also on the laser cutter.
- Everything is sitting atop a giant lazy susan that I made for gaming.

Olive Garden sends employees to Italy

Someone claiming to be a former Olive Garden employee at Reddit:
I was a manager at Olive Garden and was sent to their culinary institute in Tuscany back in 2007. It was more like a hotel, during the off-season, with restaurant on site. They would let the Olive Garden come and stay in all the rooms (small place-maybe 20 rooms) and they would use the restaurant (closed to the public-again off season) as a classroom for maybe an hour here or there and talk about spices or fresh produce for a minute before going site seeing all day. The only time we saw the "chef" was when she made a bolognese sauce while taking pictures with each of us to send to our local newspapers. Basically, yes, they send people to Italy every year. As a manager I still got paid my salary and didn't have to use vacation time, it counted as "work." They paid for everything from meals, sightseeing, flight, everything except souvenirs. But in return, they sent pre-written articles to out local newspaper with fake quotes from me and a group photo. Also every year when they would run the promotion, I was supposed to wear a special "chef" coat and make conversation with guests who ordered the promotional meals.
