Primer is an intense slow burn about time travel

Primer, written and directed by and starring Shane Carruth, is the polar opposite of Safety Not Guaranteed, the last movie I watched about time travel. While Safety Not Guaranteed is a light and funny romantic comedy that mostly uses time travel as a macguffin, Primer is a slow and intense meditation on the mechanics and dangers of time travel.  Both movies are terrific in very different ways.  Primer isn't a found footage film, but it feels real.

You can rent it for $3 at Amazon.  Or you could buy the DRM free version with limited edition poster at Carruth's site.

  1. Ha you just saw Primer?! Daaamn you're behind. Yes it's one of the greatest movies about Time Travel ever made and I can't wait to see Shane's new movie Upstream Color.

    2. @Lenny - i saw 'upstream color' just a few days ago at sundance. it is very VERY different from 'primer' - but just as packed full of complexities... god, it was amazing. imagine a film style such as terrance malik's work (tree of life) - but more of a dreamscape and illusionary style. the plot is somewhat structured... and the film is full of tons of symbolism. also, there are a few moments are sheer creepiness. it's primarily a drama though. i loved it, i gave it a 5 out of 5!
