As I understand it,
the writers were invited by Google to use "
Wordcraft" however they wished. My favorites of the stories are by
Robin Sloan (a successful fantasy novelist finds he can't trust his memory),
Ken Liu (helpful AIs get exploited by savvy humans), and
Eugenia Triantafyllou (a society sacrifices its children to unknowable entities).
