HOLD UP. George Santos is the lead story on the @nytimes.com website on Saturday night? Not the millions of Americans protesting Donald Trump today at 2,700 events in all 50 states? Come on. www.nytimes.com/2025/10/18/n...

(When I checked, the two top stories were Santos, plus a story about "the Olympics of the piano world")

("A top Kremlin official celebrated Pete Hegseth's 'Russian tie' after the Defense Secretary was accused of sending a coded message of support to Russia. Kirill Dmitriev, the CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund and Special Envoy to Vladimir Putin for investment and economic cooperation, took to X to applaud Hegseth's controversial fashion choice this week. ")

“The Department of Homeland Security has purchased two Gulfstream private jets for Kristi Noem, the secretary, and other top department officials at a cost of $172 million, according to documents reviewed by The New York Times.” — www.nytimes.com/2025/10/18/u...

The Bluesky government accounts want unhinged engagement with their accounts to screenshot and provide to Fox News to justify their authoritarianism and I’m not going to do their work for them it’s my day off.

The first posts from each of the “government” accounts were overt trolling. They are only here to troll and ensure the strange propaganda reaches more eyes thru counter rage-posts. I say this with reluctance as I yearn for the days when government accounts were for facts. CYA and block.

My friend Andrew Lih @fuzheado.bsky.social is a freakin hero. A gunman came into his Wikipedia event, and he grabbed and disarmed him. Thanks to him and another brave volunteer, no one was hurt—not even the gunman. Now let’s ask why we accept a society where this can happen at any large gathering.

("one of them had already made a critical mistake. The night before the heist worth up to $100 million, he witnessed a traffic collision and gave a police officer the number of his burner phone, according to two people involved with the case. Investigators later tracked pings from mobile phones connecting to towers along the route taken by the Brink’s 18-wheeler as it traveled from the Bay Area to Lebec, Calif. Analyzing that data, they discovered pings from the prepaid phone")

I think about how a legitimate selling point for the Xbox consoles (and consoles in general) over the last quarter of a century is you just pick the game you want to play and hit the start button. No computer related nonsense in sight, and this has fallen so damn far from the thesis.

Not fact-checking these.

when agent smith calls neo mister anderson in the matrix he is invoking a deadname to signify his power as the state but when smith calls neo mister anderson in the sequels its literally just a pet name for his soulmate that no one else uses. the wachowskis are so huge brained

When you begin a chapter in Dickens and you can tell he’s going to kill an orphan, is that the same pleasure for Victorians as when u are watching the latest Jurassic Park movie and you know the T-Rex will eat somebody? Like it’s the pleasure of the familiar motions of a beloved genre? lol
