His name is Dan Barefoot, and check out his eagle helm (Olympics roundup)

They're using a helicopter to search for signals from Guthrie's pacemaker

This is interesting: Bluetooth scanning by helicopter to look for kidnap victim Nancy Guthrie's pacemaker, which is believed to be in BLE advertising mode.

TMZ's write-up

Ars posted a retraction notice today

This was the story I noted yesterday, and that Ars and the authors had seemingly retracted the article without posting any sort of acknowledgment on the website or their personal social media accounts.

From today's retraction notice:

Ars Technica does not permit the publication of AI-generated material unless it is clearly labeled and presented for demonstration purposes. That rule is not optional, and it was not followed here....At this time, this appears to be an isolated incident.

A programmer wrote an article about an apparent AI agent trying to blackmail him, and then a major techblog seemingly used an AI to hallucinate quotes for an article about the incident

The initial post (frightening); apparently the now-deleted summary using hallucinated quotes; and the author's follow-up. Basically, a killer use for AI agents just might be finding and assembling potential (plausible-sounding) blackmail material, demanding payment, publishing the accusation, and getting it to be widely shared by other AI agents.

The AI agent in question is still active, and its creator has apparently not been identified. I didn't see any explanation from the publisher or authors of the deleted article, either.

Robbers stopped an armored truck on the highway in broad daylight and blew it up while bystanders watched

@dailymailau The gang blocked the road by setting a truck on fire, while using vehicles with flashing lights to impersonate police and move in on the armoured van. The targeted vehicle belonged to Battistolli, which operates armoured cash transport services across Italy. Other drivers caught up in the ambush were also robbed, according to Italian media. The suspects then fled, triggering a chase with the Carabinieri, during which a police car was hit by three gunshots and an unmarked vehicle was rammed. The robbery was ultimately unsuccessful, with the gang failing to escape with any cash from the van, according to local reports. Authorities confirmed no one was injured and said police are hunting at least two more suspects, with other gang members car-jacking passing motorists to aid their escape. #italy #crime #news #australia #fyp ♬ original sound - Daily Mail Australia

Two, of at least six, have been arrested:
A masked gang attacked the vehicle with Kalashnikov rifles and robbed a student of her car as they tried to escape in a heist attempt that concluded in a firefight with the Carabinieri, the Italian police

"Israeli Soldiers Accused of Using Polymarket to Bet on Strikes"

WSJ:

Israel has arrested several people, including army reservists

...

The arrests followed reports in Israeli media that Shin Bet was investigating a series of Polymarket bets last year related to when Israel would launch an attack on Iran, including which day or month the attack would take place and when Israel would declare the operation over

...

The account in question raked in more than $150,000 in winnings before going dormant for six months. It resumed trading last month, betting on when Israel would strike Iran

An article from 2020:
Morbid, funny, and terrifying, the story has mesmerized readers for millennia: Was it really possible that Rabba, a revered rabbi, could be so caddish? And what was the moral here, anyway? To watch what you drink? To be more careful when picking your friends?

Haunted by this grisly murder and miraculous rebirth, and with Purim right around the corner, I turned to the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Menachem Mendel Schneerson, who, in his collected talks, offered a radical reinterpretation of the familiar tale.

There was, the Rebbe taught, no bloodletting. Instead, what happened was
