I think it's important not to misunderstand what these social media platforms are. They are not public arenas where we bravely take on reactionary forces in honorable combat. They are apps that expose you to stress and thereby simulate the feeling of having done something useful

I just am fundamentally repulsed by the kind of liberalism/leftism which is defined by a sneering dislike of the subsets of things in society that are new, make money, or are popular

When I lived in NYC, every time I mentioned that I volunteer for NYC Pride I would have to brace myself for a sneering conversation about "corporate pride" and needling me on if I've considered the Queer Liberation March And yet over 1 mil attend NYC Pride so someone has to be showing up

the source problem with what feels like the majority of things in America is: there's a nontrivial percentage of people who are obsessively aggrieved with things to the point of mental illness, they have nothing going on in their lives and no community that would moderate their behavior at all

Looks like they're right. Data Set 1 / Photo 468, the image from yesterday's Epstein files release that included photos of Trump in a drawer, was removed.

I've already been hearing faculty discussion adapting to this policy by basically writing stripped down syllabi that include *only* the required boilerplate and nothing else, with things like course themes, reading schedules and such kept in separate documents to avoid the university owning them.

Part of the issue here is faculty develop their own courses - it takes a lot of time and effort to do so - but if the university owns the syllabi they could fire me but keep all of that work and have someone else to teach the course *I* built. Replacing TT with adjuncts the obvious application.

My syllabi as they exist *now* are to a significant degree plug-and-play: every assignment, every reading spelled out, on a day-by-day schedule. I built that and it is part of 'my product' that I bring to the university. I do not get paid separately for course preparation/creation.
