Wired reporter found David Lynch’s half-completed lost Dune II script
The article summarizes the script in detail:
Of the many differences between Dune Messiah in novel form and David Lynch's script, the biggest lay in the opening pages, which detail what happens in the aftermath of the scene in the first Dune movie when the Harkonnens bombed the Atreides’ fortress in Arrakeen, the capitol of the desert planet Arrakis. In the hallway where Duncan Idaho (Richard Jordan) was shot in the head, his shielded dead body still floats on the floor, humming and sparking.
From out of the shadows emerges a familiar face: the Baron's Doctor (Leonardo Cimino). Thought to be the only speaking part created specifically for Dune by Lynch, we learn this Doctor was actually Scytale, a shape-shifting “face dancer” crucial to the plot of Herbert's second book. Going back to Dune ’84, you may not have noticed Cimino's Doctor accompanied Baron Harkonnen during the Arrakeen attack. The Doc is absent after that, even as the Baron yells creepily, “Where's my doctor?” That’s because Doc/Scytale absconded with Duncan’s body. This Easter egg is Lynchian world-building at its best.

They sure show a lot in the new Dune trailer!
(Loved part 1.) (Took me quite a while to realize I'd seen the doctor on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds before.)

TIL "Kwisatz Haderach" is basically a Jewish phrase
From Yair Rosenberg's new newsletter titled "The Incredible True Story Behind TV’s Strangest Space Jew" and subtitled "An eight-year investigation to explain why a religious Jew appeared in one of contemporary science fiction’s most celebrated shows":
The science-fiction genre has long been inflected by Jewish influences, whether audiences realize it or not. Take this past month’s blockbuster Dune, adapted from the famed Frank Herbert novel. The film’s main character, Paul Atreides, is a messianic figure who goes by many mystical names, including one that undoubtedly confused many moviegoers: “Kwisatz Haderach.” The reason this term sounds like nonsense in English is that it’s not English. It’s Herbert’s rough transliteration of the traditional Jewish term kefitzat haderech (קפיצת הדרך), which means the “shortening of the way” or “leaping of the path.” The messiah, in other words, is the one who propels humanity forward to its ultimate destination.
(Just an FYI, it's an interesting, even uplifting story, but it does take a sad turn.)

It's well-known that danmaku shmup bullets have forgiving hitboxes (a point that a Deltarune character emphasises) but having a spell card where the bullet hitboxes are fundamentally wrong, and then calling the card "Paranoia", is a sheer power move. pic.twitter.com/ym1gctp8Gu
