Neo Cab is back in the App Store as free to try

(That first crop of Apple Arcade games was such a brief, special moment)

Neo Cab is BACK on the App Store, baby! If you love soft sci-fi, cozy mysteries, and/or themes of staying human in a world overrun by tech oligarchies and automation… well, have we got a game for you 💜 Chapter One is a free download- please give us a try & plz share! apps.apple.com/us/app/neo-c...

The backstory— when our Apple Arcade contract expired, we've had to re-submit to the App Store as brand new game. Ironically for a game about surviving the app economy on the kindness of strangers, this meant losing our hundreds of five star ratings and starting over 🙁

We’re preparing Neo Cab, a game I’m immensely proud of, for a mobile re-release soon! I’d love to celebrate this. #Gamedev pals- can you recommend any streamers/podcasters (esp narrative games focused) who might want to host a behind-the-scenes “let’s play” / interview with me? Shares appreciated!

The iPod Clickwheel Games Preservation Project rescued all 54 official iPod clickwheel games

The games are available here, and Ars wrote about the project:
Getting working access to the final unpreserved game, Real Soccer 2009, was "especially cursed," Olsro tells Ars. "Multiple [people] came to me during this summer and all attempts failed until a new one from yesterday," he said. "I even had a situation when someone had an iPod Nano 5G with a playable copy of Real Soccer, but the drive was appearing empty in the Windows Explorer. He tried recovery tools & the iPod NAND just corrupted itself, asking for recovery..."

That kind of problem highlights the race against time that Olsro and the iPod community was facing here.

Two positive reviews for new game "Mafia: The Old Country "

"Hangar 13 builds a deliberate slow-burning story that’s heavy on a sense of place and belonging. It’s a sharp turn from the bombastic openings of the rest of the franchise, but it sets the stakes well and creates one of the most compelling historical settings I’ve ever seen in a video game."

"The media has long been fascinated with the mafia, but more for its iconography than its history. Organized crime is treated as a shortcut to making a sexy flick with high stakes and lots of action potential baked into the premise. Few pieces of media are actually interested in the conditions that birthed Italy’s history of organized crime. It’s a shame because the history of Sicily is especially compelling. The island was a hotbed for boiling social issues throughout the 1800s, as peasants were pushed deeper and deeper into poverty at the hands of barons implementing high tax rates. A distrust of authority in the wake of national unification intersected with a rise in banditry, and the modern mafia was born somewhere within that tension."

Podcast interview with Jason Blum discussing M3GAN 2.0 flopping

It starts with him noting that it wasn't long ago that tracking indicated M3GAN 2.0 might beat F1.

Meanwhile, in real waste:

It never ceases to amaze me (derogatory) how much money and effort game publishers are willing to just walk away from and never see any kind of return on. Major cancelations like Perfect Dark, Everwild, and Zenimax's thing represent decades of work by hundreds of devs that's just *gone.* Shocking.

I don't know if this is lost IGN Media, since the links on their site don't work, but for whatever reason I've saved several short videos of this event on my PC for decades. Thanks for triggering the memory and making me go hunt. If you want more let me know.

I wanted to do the Namco styled approach (artwork over ingame screen) for years, but never had the right idea for it until this time. Here's the screencap I used for the bg. Made in Idraw as usual and converted into an NES rom which I've thrown onto my Everdrive for screencapping
