The number of Los Angeles police officers "testing positive for COVID-19 has ballooned"

Daily News:

[the police chief] said 52 additional Los Angeles Police Department employees have tested positive for COVID-19 in the last week

Around half of LAPD employees have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose. Only around 46% have received two vaccine doses.

Meanwhile, in Texas:

State judges in Harris County voted unanimously Tuesday to implement a mask mandate in courthouses that will supersede Gov. Greg Abbott’s ban on such mandates, according to three judges who participated in the meeting.

More Texas:

Austin Independent School District will require masks at all of its campuses and district offices

The meeting was called just a day after the Houston Independent School District superintendent proposed a mask mandate for all students and staff in its district — despite an executive order issued by Gov. Greg Abbott which explicitly prohibits school districts and other government entities from requiring masks.

The Dallas Independent School District followed, announcing a mask mandate on its campuses in a news conference on Monday.

And Miami:

Florida school superintendents who require masks for students without giving them a way to opt out could have their salaries withheld, Gov. Ron DeSantis' office said Monday.

"At no point shall I allow my decision to be influenced by a threat to my paycheck, a small price to pay considering the gravity of this issue and the potential impact to the health and well-being of our students and dedicated employees," [Superintendent] Carvalho said.
