The setting and plot reminded me of Gregory Maguire's "
Wicked" series about characters with loosely defined magical powers trying to survive under a fascist government, and the structure reminded me of Nick Harkaway's "
The Gone-Away World." Suffocatingly tense at points, and featuring language that was a pleasure to read. Available
