(More funny details in the article ("So in the midst of development, we went up to Tezuka-san and asked him to confirm, 'Is Mario actually eating those mushrooms?'")) (Has the cow illustrator been named anywhere?)

“Experts have been closely watching the variant, which is now dominant in China and is on the rise in parts of Asia. Hong Kong authorities say that rates of COVID-19 in the city have climbed to the worst levels they have seen in at least a year…”

After similar reports from the US, Danish solar power importers have done a teardown on imported inverters and have also found puzzling communications devices. www.berlingske.dk/indland/efte...

(Reuters on the Danish report, and from a few days ago, the US one) ("We don't know how critical it is or whether there are bad intentions behind it...It's possible the supplier had no malicious intent. We can't say at this point, but that doesn't change the fact that these components shouldn't be there")

(The reports I saw said they nonfatally shot her.)

Nothing new here but just reflecting on the mad fixation on other countries’ rare earth minerals, something America has plenty of but doesn’t exploit because they’re common and cheap and hence not worth refining. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/20/u...

("During her tenure at The Review, a satirical column criticizing the school's President and the policies of his administration generated controversy. In the column, Dartmouth College President..., who was Jewish, was likened to Adolf Hitler due to the alleged discriminatory policies of his administration against conservatives.")

Some of y’all noticed I’ve been uncharacteristically offline. This is why, and I remain on leave for a few weeks to handle a PTSD relapse. CJR was dogged in its pursuit of my story. Because of what I do and who I am, I felt that I had to answer their questions honestly. www.cjr.org/feature-2/we...

("I was in touch with him while reporting this story, and made repeated requests for an interview. 'I have far more at stake and to lose than any other source in this piece,' he told me in an email.")

("pandemic-related supply-chain issues forced the opening originally scheduled for 2023 to be pushed back to 2025. Earlier this year its opening was again pushed back, to 2026")

("[The homeowner] was only alerted to the commotion by his panicked neighbour who had watched the ship as it headed straight for shore, in Byneset, near Trondheim. "The doorbell rang at a time of day when I don't like to open," [the homeowner] told television channel TV2.") ("'I impressed myself by staying cool,' said [the homeowner], a retired museum director. 'I have seen and been through worse.'") (Good photo)

caused absolutely massive problems a few years back when some rabbi decided to say artichokes can't be kosher (because they might have insects in) and more or less the whole Jewish population of Rome said if you're serious about that there's going to be 12,000 more gentiles in this city

I realize that my reputation and past behavior may raise issues of "making things up" and "taking the piss" but on this occasion I have not intentionally done so www.bbc.co.uk/travel/artic...

I’m just gonna name names because this is so odious. This is for BALLERINA. I don’t work for @lionsgate.com and if you don’t want me to share my opinions unless they’re beneficial to your movie, disinvite me from your screening.

Just spoke with a rep at Brigade, a PR firm working with Lionsgate, who acknowledged that “enthusiasm” was the wrong word to use for the social embargo and that they meant to stress more the “spoiler-free” aspect. Do with that what you will.

— Matt Goldberg (@mattgoldberg.bsky.social) May 22, 2025 at 1:27 PM
(She was easily easily the best part of No Time to Die, so I was optimistic about this movie until I saw the somber Tiny Dancer trailer)

Jumping off the ridiculous BALLERINA embargo, can we also talk about how Disney has imposed a draconian “approved critics” list over the past few months, making it almost impossible for editors to assign their films?
