Rehearsing the Brain Bug on Starship Troopers in Hell’s Half Acre, Wyoming. It took us half the day to get the bug from base camp to the location. The other half to set it up. Production decided to move the shoot up a day, leaving us no time to rehearse. I advised them not to do so. Paul Verhoeven was livid. He stared me down, eyeball to eyeball. ‘Are you telling me you are not prepared to shoot tomorrow?’ I said ‘We’ll give you something great in 2 days.’ He stared at me for a beat as if about to tear my face off. Then he spun on his heel and shouted at his producers ‘Shame on you for not giving the puppeteers the time they need!’ Channeling the emotions of the moment helped our performance two days later when @nph put his hand on our bug and said ’It’s afraid!’ A post shared by alec_gillis (@alec_gillis) on Nov 15, 2017 at 4:07pm PST
