Former police captain was allegedly paid $211,400 the day after he menaced someone he thought was involved in voting fraud

ABC13:

A former Houston Police Department Captain was arrested and charged for running a man off the road and pointing a gun at his head in an attempt to prove claims of a massive voter fraud scheme in Harris County, according to a news release from the Harris County's DA's office.

...

the victim turned out to be an innocent air conditioner repairman

...

[The former police captain] allegedly never told police that he had been paid a total of $266,400 by the Houston-based Liberty Center for God and Country, with $211,400 of that amount being deposited into his account the day after the incident.

Texas Tribune:

[The CEO of the company that paid the former police captain] is an active GOP donor and is one of the most prolific culture warriors on the right. He’s a fierce opponent of same-sex marriage and was a key figure in the unsuccessful push for the 2017 “bathroom bill” in the Texas Legislature. This summer, he infamously left a voicemail for Abbott’s chief of staff telling him to shoot and kill people protesting the in-custody death of George Floyd.

Star Tribune:

[An attorney for the company] said he would be "surprised if the allegations were true. That seems out of character for any of the people that would be working under Liberty Center."
