Dodgers' 6'7" pitching prospect is 17 and, reportedly, already hitting 97mph

Joseph Deng Thon, the 17 yo, 6’7” RHP whom the Dodgers signed out of South Sudan, made his pro debut in the DSL today, tossing a scoreless inning. Weighing in at 185 lbs and already hitting 97, he’ll be an interesting one to follow for sure.

And what with a South Sudanese kid joining the DSL squad, it’s a good time to point out that the Dodger team chefs there make cuisine from the countries their players come from, to help bridge gaps, & to spice up meal times. An indigenous Taiwanese kid in 24, and South Sudanese in 25, just awesome.

Dodgers x One Piece statuette

(My impression FWIW is it's a one off by the One Piece team (and people would snap up a replica). Here's the illustration.)

The Dodgers' Star Wars Night ticket package includes a Death Star hovering over Dodger Stadium

May 14 is Star Wars night at Dodger Stadium, and the Dodgers are leaning into the bit by giving away a replica Dodger Stadium with a Death Star over it. It lights up

Ohtani's longtime interpreter has been accused of stealing millions of dollars by fraudulently placing sports bets in Ohtani's name

LAT:

Lawyers for Ohtani made that claim after The Times learned that Ohtani’s name had surfaced in the investigation of Mathew Bowyer, an Orange County resident. Ohtani’s representatives looked into the actions of the interpreter... in response to The Times’ queries, a source close to the matter said. Two sources told the newspaper that the money involved was in the millions of dollars.

...

The investigation into Bowyer involves the same prosecution team that has targeted a multimillion-dollar illegal sports gambling scheme anchored in Orange County, according to The Times’ sources and court records. At least a dozen people have been charged in that wider probe — including ex-Dodger Yasiel Puig, who has pleaded not guilty — that centered on a bookmaking operation led by former minor league baseball player Wayne Nix of Newport Beach, the records show.

The gondolas from Union Station to Dodger stadium took another step forward

Urbanize LA:

After a marathon hearing, Metro's Board of Directors has voted to approve the construction of an aerial gondola system connecting the Dodger Stadium parking lots with Los Angeles Union Station continue - but with a laundry list of conditions.

...

According to an environmental study conducted for the project, maximum capacity on the gondola system is estimated to be 5,000 passengers per hour. Cabins would travel at a speed of approximately 13.4 miles per hour with headways of 23 seconds, leading to an end-to-end trip of seven minutes. The study forecasted that construction could commence as early as 2024 and conclude within 25 months.

Ohtani gave a new car to Dodger pitcher Joe Kelly's very funny wife as a thank you for the effort to bring him to LA

I wasn't familiar with her game, and thought the text accompanying the video was by some creepy commenter, but nope, that's her posting the text herself.

From when she was showing off bedezzled hats and other family treasures as part of the campaign to bring him to LA:

The latest Dodgers trade has taught me a new term: the Three True Outcomes player

An article posted just before the trade:
Joey Gallo is ready for the next chapter of his life. He’s so ready. He’s been counting down the days. According to reports, Tuesday’s the day. The Yankees plan to break ties before 6 p.m., baseball’s trade deadline. By then, it’s a virtual guarantee that Gallo will be dealt or designated for assignment.

When it happens, Gallo will be free of New York, free of Yankees fans, free of fan abuse that’s hurt more than people realize. Wherever Gallo ends up, he’ll forget about falling way short of expectations late last year and all of this season after the Yankees traded four good prospects to the Texas Rangers for an All-Star slugger and Gold Glove outfielder who once was the prototypical Three True Outcomes player.
The "three true outcomes" in baseball are said to be a home run, a walk or a strikeout due to the fact that none of the three, with the rare exception of an inside-the-park home run or a strikeout with a dropped third strike, involve the defense beyond the pitcher or the catcher.

...

Examples
Modern-day examples of this type of player include Joey Gallo and Miguel Sano, while Adam Dunn is among the more famed three-true-outcomes players in recent history.

Interesting timing for the LA Times to run a feature titled "Dodger Stadium’s surprising garden oasis was inspired by Versailles"

"To understand how Dodger Stadium became the country’s first sports arena with an accredited botanic garden, you have to know that Chaz Perea, the stadium’s 36-year-old landscape manager, doesn’t do anything halfway."

From February, "Trevor Bauer faces questions about harassing women online in first Dodgers press conference"

"According to [a report], one of the women Bauer harassed saw her Twitter mentions flooded with anti-Semitic comments including Holocaust jokes for months after their exchange."

The Dodgers haven't taken this down?

This is their most recent comment:
"It's actually out of our hands," Roberts said. "Regardless of what direction the organization wanted to do, it's something that -- this is what has to happen. And so it's out of everyone's hands."
