"Mortal Kombat: Federation of Martial Arts was a 2000 interactive stock trading game and web series [that] attempted to follow the continuity of Mortal Kombat (film), Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, and Mortal Kombat: Conquest"

Wiki listing episodes. From a lengthy summary:
However that fell through, so instead it turned into an online fighing tournament, filmed in a studio then aired online as though we were watching a real MK tournament taking place (using a few of the actors and stunt actors from the MK movies and Conquest... probably just the ones who'd work for the least amount of money) each clip lasted around 30 seconds with a few longer plot-based intervals aired occasionally. By signing up for a free account, you could invest in fighters and place bets with pretend credits on who was going to win this tournament, presumably to win some real prizes at the end of it.
