I see a lot of youtubers who will talk about topics which would result in limited ads/demonetization but they try to go around it by completely dropping out the audio over a word or phrase and I completely don't get it.— Jenny Nicholson (@JennyENicholson) August 18, 2020
My understanding of youtube content rules is: you fill out an honors-system questionnaire about what content is in your video (basically sex/violence). If you say "yes I mention guns but it's educational" it'll immediately say, "well then it's demonetized" which admittedly sucks— Jenny Nicholson (@JennyENicholson) August 18, 2020
But now we have this weird 4th option where people will freely talk about rape or suicide but drop out the audio, so they can then say on the questionnaire, "I don't mention suicide." But as I said earlier, a lot of the time the video is largely and obviously about suicide.— Jenny Nicholson (@JennyENicholson) August 18, 2020
I have no idea if a manual review would hear the muted audio and go, "well technically they didn't talk about it." But I does appear that youtube has created a system which rewards dishonesty and makes it impossible for viewers to filter out topics they might not want to hear— Jenny Nicholson (@JennyENicholson) August 18, 2020
