Very few rodents rate as high on the cuteness scale as the long-eared jerboa. Found in the deserts of Mongolia and China this species relies on its incredible jumping abilities to dodge birds of prey and other predators when it’s out foraging. I came across this tiny tortoise beetle while on assignment in Gorongosa National Park, Mozambique. The tortoise beetle is just one of over 3,000 beetle species that share a similar name because their body shape mimics that of a turtle. pic.twitter.com/SeBQgmBgfT— Joel Sartore (@joelsartore) February 24, 2019
